Biographical notes:
From 1859 to 1862 the organisation was known as the Victorian Gardeners' Mutual Improvement Society. In 1862 the name was changed to the Victorian Horticultural Improvement Society. Occasionally the name was cited as the Victorian Horticultural Society.
