The Faculty of Social Work was inaugurated in 1966 as the Graduate School of Social Work. Since 1968 it has held accredited status with the United States Council on Social Work Education, and in 1974 by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work. On November 5, 1974 it became the Faculty of Social Work. Its purpose is to prepare specially qualified personnel for the many forms of direct clinical and community practice, and for related professional functions of policy development, planning, administration, and research.
