Arizona archeologist and Indian art dealer.

Henry Claiborne "Clay" Lockett was born in 1906 in Flagstaff, Arizona, where his father was one of the first settlers. Clay Lockett graduated from both Phoenix Union High School and the University of Arizona. Following the Depression years, during which he did a number of odd jobs, Lockett returned to school, eventually completing his Ph. D. in anthropology. He spent some time as a teacher, an archeologist, and worked for the Indian Service in soil conservation. Eventually, he began his own Indian arts and crafts store in Tucson.
