The Pennsylvania State Police was created as an executive department of state government in 1905.

The Pennsylvania State Police was organized on Dec. 15, 1905. On June 29, 1937 the State Police was merged with the State Highway Patrol. The first State Police Training School was established at Newville, Pa. from 1921 to 1923. In 1924 it was reorganized and transferred to Hershey, Pa. and later named the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.
