Biographical notes:
With Old National Bank, the Spokane & Eastern Trust Company was one of Spokane's major financial institutions until the depression of the thirties, and its officers were among the city's leading citizens. Noteworthy are J.P.M. Richards, who came to Spokane in 1889 and founded Spokane & Eastern with a state charter in 1890, Robert L. Rutter who succeeded Richards as president in 1916, and Joel E. Ferris, who took over from Rutter 1931.
