Biographical notes:

The four Kountze brothers: Augustus, Herman, Luther and Charles were pioneer bankers. Herman (1833-1906) and Augustus (1826-1892) Kountze opened Kountze Brothers Bank in Omaha, Neb. in 1857. Luther Kountze (1848-1918) opened a branch of the Kountze Brothers Bank in Denver, Colo. in 1862 and later in June, 1866, the name of the bank was changed to Colorado National Bank. The brothers also operated banks in Central City, Colo. and Cheyenne, Wyo. Another brother, Charles B. Kountze (1844-1911) was president of Colorado National Bank from 1874-1911. His son Harold (1885-1965) was also bank president from 1934-1956. The brothers made numerous investments in real estate, mining and other businesses.
