From 1950 through 1953, Sidney Licht, M.D. (1907-1979), commissioned the translations of several works by Galen from Greek into English with the intention of having them published. Licht was an authority on physical medicine, curator of Yale's Physical Medicine Collection and editor of the Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation. The translator, Robert Montraville Green, M.D. (1880-1955) was professor of Anatomy at Harvard Medical School. Green based his translations on C. G. Kuhn, ed. Claudii Galeni Opera Omnia (Leipzig, 1821-33). Dr. Licht sent the translations to Dr. Charles Mayo Goss (1899-1981), anatomy professor and editor of medical publications. Due to some translational inaccuracies and the volume of Dr. Goss's obligations, the translations collected here have never been published.

From the guide to the Selected works of Galen / translated by Robert Montraville Green for Sidney Licht [ca.1953], 1951-1979, (History of Medicine Division. National Library of Medicine)
