Ballard, Addison, 1822-1914.
Biographical notes:
Clergyman and educator.
Born in Farmington, Mass., in 1822. Graduated with honors from Williams College in 1842; thereafter, he was a professor at, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Hadley, Massachusetts. Entered the Congregational ministry and worked in Grand River valley, Michigan. From 1847 to 1854 he taught Latin and mathematics at Ohio University, taking over the chair of rhetoric and belle-lettres at Williams College and leaving that post in 1855. He continued to teach and serve the ministry for many years, and also wrote and lectured extensively. He was awarded honorary membership in the London Society of Science.
