Biographical notes:
John J. Knox, merchant, banker and militia general, lived in Knoxboro, Oneida County, New York. Among his children were William E. Knox, Presbyterian minister in New York State; John Jay Knox, U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, later a banker in New York City; Henry M. Knox, banker in Minnesota; and Charles E. Knox, Presbyterian minister and president of German Theological Seminary of Newark (in Bloomfield, New Jersey). George William Knox, son of William E. Knox, was a Presbyterian minister who served as a missionary in Japan and later as a professor at Union Theological Saminary.
