Aderhold, Omer Clyde, 1899-
Biographical notes:
Omer Clyde Aderhold was born in Lavonia, Ga. on Nov. 7, 1899. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1923 and received a master's degree from the University of Georgia in 1938. He went on to receive his Ph.D. from Ohio State in 1938. Aderhold joined the faculty of UGA in 1929 as associate professor of education. In 1946 he became dean of the College of Education. He was named President of the University in 1950 where he remained until his retirement at age 67. During his years at UGA, Aderhold helped the school grow from a small state college to the nationally-recognized university it is today. He was a nationally-known educator and a state hero. One of his most far-reaching actions was his aid in passing legislation to finance public education in Georgia on a continuing basis. Aderhold died in Athens, Georgia on July 4, 1969.
