William Carroll Pahlmann (12 Dec. 1906-6 Nov. 1987) was a leading interior decorator, and the originator of the "eclectic look."
Educated at the Parsons School of Design in New York, he worked for Lord & Taylor, becoming head of the store's decorating department. After service in the Army during World War II, he returned to New York and established his own firm: William Pahlmann Associates, Inc. Pahlmann installations included a wide variety of public and private buildings, in all parts of the United States, and in other parts of the world. He wrote a long-running newspaper column on decorating, published a book on the subject, and won numerous prestigious awards for his innovative work.
