Politician, Member House of Representatives, 1918-1929 and 1931-1933. Treasurer, 1921-1923; Prime Minister and Minister for External Affairs, 1923-1929. Honorary Minister and Australian Minister in London, 1932-1933, Assistant Treasurer and Minister without Portfolio, 1932. Represented Australia at World Economic Conference, 1933, League of Nations, 1933-1938, Montreaux Conference, 1936 and at Imperial Conference, 1937. High Commissioner for Australia in Great Britain, 1933-1945 and represented Australian Government in War Cabinet and Pacific War Council.
