The American Institute of Physics is a not-for-profit membership corporation chartered in New York State in 1931 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. Its members are leading societies in the fields of physics, astronomy, geophysics, and related sciences, and its activities include providing services to its members such as publishing, finance, and education. Physics Today is a magazine published by AIP for the physics community since 1948. It features articles on current issues and physics education, reports on meetings, book reviews, and news of research programs and professional activities. Goodwin was an editor.
