New Samuel Whitney was born March 1, 1851 to Francis Tuft and Clarissa Alger Whitney in Iron County, Utah. He was named "New" because he was the first white child born in Iron County. He married Sarah Elizabeth Gurr on July 29, 1872 in Salt Lake City. He passed away May 29, 1926 in Parowan, Iron County, Utah.
