Arthur William Hummel (1884-1975) was a missionary to China and Chief of the Orientalia Collection at the Library of Congress. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.S. and B.D., and worked as a English teacher and missionary in Peking and Fenchow, China. After his return he was hired to work at the Library of Congress, where he remained until his retirement in 1954. After his retirement he taught at the American University and renewed his missionary efforts.
