Biographical notes:
The 47th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry was made up from the 11th Battalion of infantry which had served on the Georgia coast in 1862. It joined the Army of Tennessee and participated in the Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge and Atlanta campaigns. It then went to Savannah in General Hardee's command. In the spring of 1865 it was consolidated with the 46th Georgia Regiment and was with General Joseph E. Johnston when he surrendered in North Carolina.
