Abbott, Hilda

Biographical notes:

C.L.A. Abbott: Charles Lydiard Abbott held the seat of Gwydir in Federal Parliament from 1925 to 1929, and also was Minister for Home Affairs, 1928-1929. In 1931 he was re-elected, and remained until 1937. From Canberra, Abbott moved to Darwin to to the Northern Territory's Administrator from 1937 until 1946. Hilda Abbott: Hilda Abbott (who married Abbott in 1916) was the first President of the Northern Territory Division of the Red Cross. She had been with the Red Cross since 1915. Mrs Abbott is also an author and broadcaster; a member of International P.E.N., the Fellowship of Australian Writers, and the Society of Women Writers; and a professional interior decorator.
