Biographical notes:

Selucius Garfielde was a Delegate from the Territory of Washington. Selucius was born in Shoreham, Vermont on Dec. 8, 1822. He moved to Galipolis, Ohio and then to Paris, Kentucky where he worked in the newspaper trade. He served as member of the State constitutional convention in 1849. Garfielde immigrated to California in 1851 where he served as a member of the State House of Representatives. He studied law and was admitted to the Bar in 1854. He practiced law in San Francisco, CA. In 1857, he moved to the Territory of Washington. He was receiver of public moneys 1857-1860. He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1860 to the Thirty-Seventh Congress. He was Surveyor General of the Territory of Washington 1866-1869. He was elected as a Republican to the Forty-First and Forty-Second Congresses. He was unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1872. He was appointed Collector of Customs for the Puget Sound district in 1873. He moved to Seattle where he practiced law. He passed away in Washington, D.C. on April 13, 1881 and is buried in the Glenwood Cemetery.
