Biographical notes:

Family of Abijah Usher (1757-1836) who settled in the Hollis, Me., area shortly before 1800 and founded the lumber mills at Killick Pond. He was married twice, first to Mary Weld (1762-1791), and then to Rebecca Kidder in 1795. His sons, Ellis-Baker (1785-1855) and Abijah Usher (1788-1841), continued in the business and had sawmills at Bonny Eagle, Me. As early settlers, the family was prominent and involved with land speculation. Many family members served in the Massachusetts General Court and then, after statehood, the Maine Legislature and Senate.
