Biographical notes:

Christopher Columbus Andrews was born October 27, 1829, in Hillsboro, New Hampshire. He attended Francetown Academy and Harvard Law School, and was admitted to the Massachusetts bar before moving to St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1857. He served in the Union Army, Minnesota Infantry, Third Regiment during the Civil War, advancing from Captain to Major General. He was honorably mustered out on January 15, 1866. From 1869 through 1877, Andrews served as United States minister to both Sweden and Norway, and from 1882 through 1885 as consul general to Brazil. He served as chief fire warden, 1895-1905, state forestry commissioner, 1905-1911, and member of the state forestry board, 1905-1922. Andrews lived his later years in St. Paul. He died on September 21, 1922.
