Biographical notes:

Frederick Eugene Farnsworth was prominent in the civic and financial life of Detroit.

Frederick E. Farnsworth was born in Detroit on Dec. 2, 1852. He began in the boot and shoe business with his father, and later worked as a cashier of Union National Bank, Detroit, 1898-1903; manager of Portland Cement Company at Marlborough, Mich., 1903-1907; general secretary of American Bankers' Association, 1907-1919; and city assessor of Detroit, 1891-1897. He was a colonel in the National Guard for fifteen years. He was one of the founders of the Detroit Art Museum, and acted as secretary for the museum for twenty-five years. He moved to Long Island, New York in 1910 and died there on July 9, 1930.
