Biographical notes:

Surgeon and educator C. Barber Mueller (b. 1917) received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in 1942. He served as intern (1942-1943) and assistant resident (1947-1949) in surgery at Barnes Hospital. He also served as fellow in general surgery at Washington University (1949-1950) and resident in general surgery at Barnes Hospital (1951-1952). His mentor in surgery was Evarts A. Graham. He joined the faculty and Washington University School of Medicine in 1951, serving as: instructor in surgery (1951-1952) and assistant professor (1955-1956). He went on to be department chair and professor of surgery at State University of New York Upstate Medical University (1956-1967) and McMaster University (1967-). Dr. Mueller's medical research interests are in renal physiology and disease and survivorship in breast carcinoma. Recent historical projects include a biography of Evarts Graham and a history of McMaster University Medical School. At McMaster, he was one of the founders of an innovative program, Problem-based-learning, a method for the education of medical students at McMaster University that revolutionized medical education around the world. -- Sources: Amer.
