Biographical notes:

Lincoln Institute was founded in 1909 as a result of the Day Law which prohibited blacks and whites from being educated together; with an interracial staff from its beginning, the school carried out the work formerly done by Berea College; served as a high school for African American students throughout the state; used as a training school for student teachers from Kentucky State University beginning in 1939; closed in 1966.
