Biographical notes:
Civil War Colonel with the 24th Illinois Infantry, who was born in Hungary, emigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1848 after, as a member of the military fought in the attempted revolution in Hungary. When the Civil War broke out he petitioned Lincoln to allow him to form a company of Hungarian soldiers. They became part of the 24th and fought at Chickamauga, the battle of Chattanooga, Stone's River and others. He died a few weeks after being wounded, Feb. 25th near Dalton, Georgia while on a reconnaissance tour.
