Biographical notes:
John Kendall was a British naval officer who served in America during the French and Indian War and American Revolution. In 1757-1763, he served under John Byron on the Vanguard, America, and Fame. In 1764 Kendall was made the 4th officer of his Byron's flagship, H.M.S. Dolphin on his voyage of discovery around the world. In 1769-1778 he served on the Antelope, the Panther, and the Princess Royal. In Nov. 1778 he was made Post-Captain and in Feb. 1779 appointed Captain of the H. M. S. Rainbow, a troopship on harbor service in American coastal waters. Having retired from the Navy, he lived in Scarborough. In July 1795, Kendall was superannuated as Rear Admiral.
