Biographical notes:

On March 3, 1981, the Carpenter family of Montchanin, Del., announced that it was prepared to sell the franchise for the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team, plus its minor league farm team and stadium contracts. In October, they accepted the $30 million bid of a group of investors headed by William Y. Giles who formed a Pennsylvania limited partnership "The Phillies." The major investor was the Taft Broadcasting Company of Cincinnati, owner of Philadelphia's television Channel 29. Upon consummation of the sale on December 14, 1981, the Carpenters' Philadelphia National League Club, Inc., was renamed Whiz Incorporated and then liquidated.
