Biographical notes:

Robert Girardi was born in 1961 in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, where his first published work appeared in 'The Virginia literary review.' After a brief stint at the Graduate Film School of the University of Southern California he transferred to the University of Iowa where he earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Writer's Workshop and received a James A. Michener Fellowship for the manuscript of an early novel. Girardi's first published novel was 'Madeleine's ghost' (1995). It was followed by the novels 'The pirate's daughter' (1997), 'Vaporetto 13' (1997) and 'The wrong Doyle' (2002). A collection of short stories and novellas entitled 'A vaudeville of devils' appeared in 1999. Other short stories have appeared in 'The new republic', 'Tri-quarterly', 'The Washington post' and in the collections 'Best American mystery stories, 2000' and 'The year's best fantasy and horror: thirteenth annual collection' (2000). Robert Girardi resides in Washington, D.C. He is married to the poet and novelist Linda Girardi.
