Biographical notes:

Dr. Edward Ford, of Binghamton, New York, was a hospital surgeon in the Army. He performed these duties in Army hospitals at New Albany, Indiana, St. Louis, Missouri, Nashville, Tenn., and other locations. He served as a Major and Surgeon in the 101st United States Colored Infantry. Dr. Ford traveled extensively through New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. In August 1866, Dr. Ford began the process of buying a drug store in Binghamton. The second diary chronicles Dr. Ford's sctivities at the drug store and about town.
