Ina Ruth Hillis Lackey was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma 18 March 1909. Earned A.B. from Asbury College (Wilmore, KY) 1932; M.A. from Scarritt College (Nashville, TN), 1936; D. Ed., Columbia Teachers College, 1942-43. Lackey first went to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1936 as Director, Social Work for People's Central Institute (Methodist Board of Missions). Became Regional Superintendent and Director of local clubs, USO, in Sao Wiz and Recife, Brazil. USO Director of Food Service, Racife, Natal, and Belem. USO Public Relations and interpreter, 1943-45. Founded and organized YWCA in Recife, Brazil, 1946-58. Associate Executive Director, YWCA, Akron, Ohio, 1958. Executive Director, YWCA, Corpus Christi, Texas, 1959-64. Returned to Brazil as YWCA representative to start social center, 1964-68. Executive Director, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Racine, Wisconsin, YWCAs, 1968-75.
