Fox, Maurice

Biographical notes:

Maurice A. Fox was born in Burton Ohio in 1906. He graduated from Hiram College in 1927 and went on to receive an M. A. in English from Ohio State University. He taught then served as an administrator of the Geauga County Schools before joining the Union Savings & Trust Co. in Warren Ohio in 1936. In 1942 he became vice president of the First National Bank of Burton. He stayed with the institution for the remainder of his career going on to become president and then chairman of the board of directors until 1982. He earned several banking certificates from the American Institute of Banking and was also a graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

In his private life, Mr. Fox was married to Ethlynn Lampson Fox (1906-1986). He was deeply involved with many charitable and civic organizations in Geauga County. In 1975, he was selected to be a member of the Garfield Society of Hiram College. A life member and past president of the Geauga County Historical Society, in his retirement, Mr. Fox turned his interests to map collection. On acquiring an 1826 map of the Western Reserve of Ohio, Mr. Fox became fascinated with early cartography and became an expert with a focus on North American maps, especially the Great Lakes region. Maurice Fox died in 1992.
