An act was approved by the 1878-1879 Legislature to authorize the creation of a board compromised of the governor, attorney general and the state auditor to compromise and settle any claims of the state arising under the revenue laws of the state, or on account of the default of any officer having charge of the collection, safe keeping or disbursement of public funds.
Currently the board has the same jurisdication with the same three ex-officio members who do not receive additional compensation for their duties. Quorum and the meeting date are not specified by law. After the board has acted the governor must file a statement in the treasurer's office showing the nature, terms, and reason of each compromise.
Although no staff is specified by law, support functions for the board are performed through the office of state treasurer.
