Enrolled in the 21st New York Volunteers, 13 May 1861 at Buffalo to serve 2 years. Mustered in as lieutenant; wounded at Bull Run, Va., 30 Aug. 1862; received promotion to lieutenant colonel, 8 Dec. 1862; mustered out at Buffalo, 18 May 1863.
