The Librarians' Association at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was organized in 1972 to promote the professional growth and development of its members, effective library service within the academic community, and a spirit of cooperation among members of the library profession. Membership is open to all professional librarians at the University. In addition to regular monthly meetings, September through June, the Association holds seminars and workshops on special topics and sponsors two- or three-day conferences.

The Librarians' Association at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was organized under a constitution drafted on 29 November 1972 and adopted at a charter meeting on 6 December 1972. The objectives of the association are the promotion of the professional growth and development of its members, effective library service within the academic community, and a spirit of cooperation among members of the library profession. Membership is open to all professional librarians at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The association is governed by officers elected annually at the June business meeting and by an Executive Committee composed of the officers and committee chairs. Until 1995 there were three officers: president, vice president/treasurer, and secretary. In 1981 the vice president/treasurer was designated as the president-elect for the year following the conclusion of her or his term as vice president/treasurer. In 1995 a separate office of treasurer was created.
Association meetings are held monthly, September through June, to conduct business and for programs on subjects of professional interest. In addition to these regular meetings, seminars and workshops on special topics are scheduled. Since the 1974-1975 academic year, the association has sponsored two- and three-day conferences.
