Biographical notes:

John Coney was a distinguished English draughtsman and engraver. He originally apprenticed as an architect; although he never practiced, the focus of his engravings was invariably architectural. Known for fine engravings of cathedrals and abbey churches, Coney had a continental vision, producing work of buildings in France, Holland, Germany, and Italy as well as England.
