University of Minnesota. Dept. of Ecology and Behavioral Biology
Biographical notes:
The Department of Ecology and Behavioral Biology was established in 1967 in the College of Biological Sciences “in recognition of the state's urgent need for well-trained bioscientists who can teach and do research on all aspects of man's impact on the biosphere.” In the 1966-1968 President’s Report, the new department was described as being “a focal point for graduate training in aquatic and terrestrial ecology and behavioral biology.” Alan J. Brook served as the first department head (1967 to 1973). In 1989, the department’s name was changed to Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior to reflect its expansion into population and evolutionary genetics studies.
