Williams, Charles Edward
Variant namesBiographical notes:
Charles Edward Williams, of Stroudsburg, Pa., Penn State class of 1944 (agricultural engineering), was a member of the Lion's Paw senior society. Lion's Paw was founded in 1908 by 10 male seniors. Since 1945 the Lion's Paw Alumni Society has been working to preserve Mount Nittany and now owns 525 acres. The Mount Nittany Conservancy, a non-profit corporation, was initiated in 1981 by a 700-member alumni branch of Lion's Paw -- one of three secret societies on campus -- to protect Mount Nittany from construction. The alumni society also gives the Lion's Paw Medal Award each year to someone who has contributed to the University. The society was established "with the primary purpose of uniting undergraduate leaders for service to the University."
