Biographical notes:

The Woodhull Monument Association was a fundraising organization that unsuccessfully sought to raise $50,000 for the erection of a monument to General Nathaniel Woodhull, a Revolutionary War officer who died in Brooklyn in 1776 while a prisoner of the British.
