Biographical notes:

William A. Brown (1938-2004) was an African-American concert singer and teacher. Brown was born on May 29, 1938, in Jackson, Mississippi. He earned a B.M.E. from Jackson State University (1959) and M. Mus. degree in vocal performance from Indiana University Bloomington (1962). As a recitalist he was noted for performing music by black composers. His concert career included performances with the Boston, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Royal Philharmonic, Detroit ,and Capetown symphonies; and he performed with the New York City Opera, the Lake George Opera Festival, Opera Ebony and the Goldovsky Opera Company. He taught at the University of North Florida in Jackson ville. Brown died in Jacksonville on October 20, 2004.
