Biographical notes:

Charrington United Breweries Ltd was registered as a limited liability company in 1962 at 34 Davies Street, London, England to undertake the merger of Charrington & Co Ltd , London, and United Breweries Ltd , London, by an exchange of shares. In 1964 some 5,300 licensed properties were owned by the group. The company acquired Offilers' Brewery Ltd , Vine Brewery, Ambrose Street, Derby, Derbyshire, England , and Dunmow Brewery Ltd , Dunmow Brewery, North Street, Dunmow, Essex, England , in 1965; and Massey's Burnley Brewery Ltd , Bridge End Brewery, Westgate, Burnley, Lancashire, England , in 1966. In 1967 the company merged with Bass, Mitchells & Butlers Ltd , Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England to form Bass Charrington Ltd (later Bass plc ).
