Mount Zion Baptist Church (New York, N.Y.)

Biographical notes:

Mount Zion Baptist Church was founded in New York City on 16 August 1843 by sixteen initial members, most of whom had left Bethesda Baptist Church. It was an Old-School Baptist (or Primitive Baptist) congregation. James C. Goble was asked to serve as pastor and he remained at the church from 1843 to 1850. After Goble left, the church searched unsuccessfully for a new pastor and the matter was still unresolved in 1857 when the minute book ends. A short time later, in 1858, Mount Zion merged with Ebenezer Baptist Church.
