Robert Clark, Jr. was a Lt. and Quartermaster of the 11th Regiment, Michigan Militia. As a Deputy U.S. Land Surveyor, he surveyed in the Grand Rapids and St. Joseph County (Mich.) areas. In 1828-1829 he bought land in and moved to the White Pigeon Village (Mich.) area, which he had helped survey. He surveyed, mapped, and platted White Pigeon in May 1830, and the territorial road from Nottawa Township (St. Joseph Co.) to Grand Rapids in 1833. He married Mary E. Clarke (d. ca. 1867) and had two sons. The papers of one son, John Marshall Clark, b. 1837, are also in the Clarke Historical Library. Robert died in 1837. Mary and sons then moved to Chicago and purchased a dairy farm near Chicago on Clark Street. From the dairy business they became quite wealthy.
