Biographical notes:
The firm of George D. Wetherill & Company was a major wholesale dealer in paints, drugs and spices in Philadelphia throughout the 19th century. By the 1880s it was primarily a paint manufacturer. The business was established by George D. Wetherill, Sr., around 1816, and continued by his son-in-law, Christopher Wetherill, and grandson, George D. Wetherill, Jr. For most of its existence it was located at 56 North Front Street.
