Biographical notes:

John Test, 1771-1849, was a prominent lawyer and judge in Indiana. He also served as a member in Congress, 1823-1831 and as a circuit judge, and eventually moved to Mobile, Ala. where he resumed his law practice.

In the 1830s and 1840s John Test, along with Daniel Webster, was involved in legal suits pending in the U.S. Senate. The cases involved the legal rights of several families claiming title to lands in (West) Florida, that had been ceded to the U.S. government by Spain.
