Biographical notes:
John Bailey Henry, Jr. (b. 1916, Christine, Tex.), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from aviation cadet training and earned his pilot's wings in 1939. During World War II, he served as operations officer, 37th Fighter Group; commander, 28th Fighter Squadron in the Canal Zone; commander, 339th Fighter Group, assistant A-3, 4th Combat Wing, and chief of staff, 20th Bombardment Wing, in England. He flew 94 combat missions. In 1952 he assumed command of the 22nd Bombardment Wing, Strategic Air Command, and during the two years in this position he became proficient as a jet bomber pilot. After various assignments in the U.S. and Hawaii during the 1960s, General Henry became chief of staff for Headquarters, U.S. Southern Command, in the Panama Canal Zone. He retired in 1974.
