Biographical notes:
James Burton Cherry was born in Pitt County, N.C., January 17, 1840. He married Pattie Sherrod in 1860 and they had two daughters, Mangie and Nina. After the death of his first wife in February 1869, Mr. Cherry married Miss Ada M. Pearce on March 16, 1875. They had a son, James B. Cherry, Jr. James B. Cherry, Sr., died March 13, 1905.
