Biographical notes:

Jose Luis Correa (born January 24, 1958) is an American businessman and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as the U.S. Representative for California's 46th congressional district since 2017.

Born in East Los Angeles, California, he was raised in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico before moving to Anaheim, California where Correa would graduate from Anaheim High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics from California State University, Fullerton as well as a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles. After college, Correa used his education to become a banker, attorney, and licensed real estate broker. His political career began in 1996 when he ran unsuccessfully for the California State Assembly as the Democratic nominee in the 69th Assembly district. Two years later, Correa won and would serve three terms in the Assembly before being forced from office due to term limits. In 2004, he campaigned for and was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors, becoming the first Democrat to serve on the board since 1987. In January 2006, Correa entered the race for the Democratic Party nomination for the California State Senate 34th district, narrowly winning the election. After serving two terms, Correa ran in a special election for the Orange County Board of Supervisors in January 2015, narrowly losing.

In 2016 Correa ran for the United States Congress for the 46th district. Coming first in the June open primary, he defeated Democrat Bao Nguyen that November. He has been re-elected twice. In Washington, Correa is committed to working across party lines to strengthen the middle class and give everyone a shot at the American Dream by investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He has worked to support public health and safety services, mental health care, and health and safety programs for children. He has championed affordable higher education and taxpayer equity while protecting taxpayers by fighting “waste, fraud, and abuse.” Since entering office, Congressman Correa has introduced legislation to protect the legal rights of immigrants, care for veterans, and fight against the wasteful spending of taxpayer money.
