Biographical notes:

Family of Isaac Bissell (1682-1744) who moved to Litchfield, Conn., in 1723, where he owned a 60th share, ca. 700 acres. He was the father of 10 children, including Benjamin (1717-1747) and Zebulon (1724-1777); farmers and landowners, of Litchfield and Milton, Conn. William Bissell (1810-1902) of Litchfield was a captain in the Civil War, a house painter, and a farmer. He served in Company A, 19th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers from Sept. 11, 1861 to July 21, 1863.
