Alan Shapley (b. Feb. 9, 1903, N.Y.C.-d. May 13, 1973), Major General in the U.S. Marine Corps, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1927. He was commanding officer of the 4th Marine Regiment during engagements at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam, and Okinawa from 1942 to 1945. He was chief of staff, 1st Marine Division, during the Korean Conflict, and commanding general, Fleet Marine Force, in Hawaii until 1962.
