John M. Waterman was a legendary mountain climber who lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. Among his feats was a 145 day solo traverse of Mount Hunter in the Alaska Range. In 1981, Waterman disappeared during a solo attempt of a new route on Mount McKinley.
