Robert Edward Coontz (1864-1935) was a naval officer, and Chief of Naval Operations, November 1, 1919 to July 21, 1923.

Coontz was an 1885 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He was in the USS Nebraska during the cruise of the Great White Fleet in 1907-1909, was CNO from 1919-1923, and CIC U.S. Fleet 1923-1925. He retired in 1928 with the rank of rear admiral.
